A Letter from Amir Fetanat, winner of the Inttranet™ Linguist of the Year Award for 2007
|
Bogotá, Colombia (Inttranews): On November 17, 2007 I made free access available through the internet to my Farsi translation of the Gabriel Garcia Marquez book "Memory of my melancholy whores" to the Iranian population after a censored version of the same book was banned in Iran by the ministry of culture and Islamic guidance of Iran on November 14, just two weeks after publication. […] My primary motive for this action was my belief that no political or religious order has the right to ban a literary work or deprive the teachers, writers, students and intellectuals of an entire nation to have access to a classic work of contemporary literature. I was right; more than 40.000 Farsi language people from 80 countries around the world have downloaded my uncensored and complete version.
