Sydney, Australia (Australian): The donation to Australian universities of a series of texts translated from Arabic to English would provide a sorely needed bridge between Islam and the West, according to the author, a leading US scholar in the field. Daniel Peterson, professor of Islamic studies and Arabic at Brigham Young University in Utah, told an audience in Sydney last week that the 11 books, which were years in the making, reflected a time in the 9th century when Muslims, Jews and Christians worked together to translate ancient Greek texts. He had also made texts of other religious teachings and planned dozens more.
