Pan-African Parliament hindered by untranslated documents
|
Cape Town, South Africa (IoL): The Pan-African Parliament is supposed to oversee the African Union's budget and operations, but it also has to present its budget to the AU. The parliament complained that this affected planning and staffing. Vacancies had to be re-advertised because "some successful candidates changed their minds after waiting for a long time". Freelance translators absconded, leaving a backlog of documents untranslated into the five working languages, which in turn caused delays in sittings.
