Teen dream: Transtalk
|
Connecticut, USA (NHR): 17-year old Ivellisse Morales has developed a business plan for a company called Transtalk, a translation service targeted at Spanish-speaking senior citizens and people on fixed incomes who need help navigating medical, legal or governmental issues in English. The idea came from her grandmother: "She does not speak English," Ivi says. "She came here from Puerto Rico 30 years ago, but all she knows is ‘hi’ and ‘thank you.’ There are times she goes for doctors’ appointments and she has to scrape along to figure out what’s going on. Sometimes, immigrants bring their grandchildren with them to translate."
