Trial postponed two years for lack of interpreter
|
Cuttack, India (CT): Ten members of the Koya tribe have languished in jail without trial for the past two years for want of an interpreter. Malkangiri police arrested the 10 tribals in 2004 for allegedly attending a rally in Bhubaneswar, organised by the Daman Pratirodh Manch, a front organisation of the Maoists. As the trial court has no interpreter to record the statements of witnesses from the tribe, who can speak and understand only the Koya language, trial of the 10 accused is yet to begin.
