Deaf demand equal rights to interpreting services
Blogworld (Deafeye): Why do Deaf people have to have an interpreter that can sign several kinds of languages when hearing people have interpreters that are fluent in their language? I think it is fair to require that we have an ASL certified interpreter. People who want to use PSE, SEE, Cued etc can request for an interpreter that is certified in their chosen mode of communication. I am tired of getting interpreters that don't meet my communication needs. The public does not really understand what an ASL interpreter is. They think sign language interpreter is the same as ASL interpreter. If hearing people request a translator, they will ask which language, we should have the same access.
